Local Governments are to be equipped with water tank cars and emergency water tanks in order to deal with water cut off caused by damage to water facilities at the time of disasters.
c. Medical Supplies
The National Government, local governments and Japan Red Cross are improving the scheme to procure and store medical supplies and medical equipment necessary for medical and lifesaving activities.
E. Dissemination of Knowledge on Disaster Prevention
Because enhancement of the awareness of disaster prevention is important in minimizing damage by earthquake disaster, dissemination of useful knowledge concerning earthquake disaster and the education of residents and disaster prevention personnel are carried out using appropriate methods. PR via radio and television, lending of movie films concerning disaster prevention, arranging a disaster prevention week, holding disaster prevention fairs, distributing pamphlets, etc.
F. General Disaster Prevention Training
Every year since 1971, in a joint effort, the National Government and local governments have engaged in earthquake countermeasures training. The local governments also engage in disaster prevention training specific to their area.
September 1st, the anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake, has been designated as Nation Disaster Prevention Day and each year training is carried out nationwide.
